Padres Star Thinks Dodgers Could Be ‘Best Team Ever, Roster-Wise’

It’s no secret the Los Angeles Dodgers’ roster is stacked — at least on paper. With additions like Tyler Glasnow, Shohei Ohtani, James Paxton and Yoshinobu Yamamoto this offseason, the Dodgers bolstered a team that already had incredible All-Stars like Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman.

The roster is so stacked that even San Diego Padres second baseman Xander Bogaerts couldn’t help but rave about the Dodgers’ talent. Though first baseman Jake Cronenworth is tired of talking about the Dodgers, Bogaerts had no trouble breaking down how good the Dodgers are.

“I don’t know how close that might be to the best team ever, roster-wise. Come on, man. One thing I know is I’m happy I’m not a pitcher. I don’t have to face Mookie, Freeman, Shohei. Even if you get those guys, you have Will Smith. It’s tough.”

While it’s not always common for a player to blatantly praise their division rival, Bogaerts seems like he’s trying to be honest.

“Come on, man. You go to the casino, the Dodgers are probably way favored to win the division. That’s realistically looking at it. They’re stacked.”

Though the Dodgers are certainly favored to win the division, the Padres are definitely hoping to upset Los Angeles. Despite the Dodgers’ talent, the Padres did do a good job of containing the team in the regular season opener until the eighth inning. The Dodgers were held to just one run and a 2-1 deficit until the eighth, when they earned four runs to secure a 5-2 win.

The Padres stormed out of the gate Thursday and ultimately secured a 15-11 win. The two teams headed back to the United States tied in the standings with identical 1-1 records.

FanGraphs projects the Dodgers to win another 92 games this season, the Padres 81.
