Tyler Glasnow Can’t Wait to Work With Mark Prior, Dodgers’ Pitching Coaches

After being traded to the Dodgers and signing a long-term contract extension, starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow can call it a homecoming. The kid from Santa Clarita will get the chance to wear the jersey of the team he cheered for as a kid, a special opportunity for any professional athlete.

Having attended games at Dodger Stadium as a child, Glasnow understands what it means to play for the organization. As an opponent and now as a member of the team, he can appreciate what makes the Dodgers one of the best in the entire league.

Glasnow spoke about his excitement getting to work with Dodgers pitching coach Mark Prior in an interview with our very own Doug McKain. The veteran right-hander seems ready and eager to learn.

“Super excited. I talked to (Mark) Prior on the phone. I talked to a bunch of front office guys. And it’s cool. They’re very data-driven but also have a lot of feel. And I’ve only heard really good things about Mark and I’m so excited to get started and pick his brain and see how I can evolve as a pitcher.”

The Dodgers have been known for working their magic on pitchers in years past, and Glasnow could benefit greatly from this. He was one of the better pitchers in the game while in Tampa Bay, and his skillset should only increase moving forward.

If past precedent is any indication, Prior and assistant pitching coach Connor McGuiness will take what Glasnow does well, maximize it, and then work to minimize his weaknesses. The Dodgers have been able to get the most out of pitchers with even less talent.

Glasnow, 30, has a chance to take a major leap. He has gone 26-11 with a 3.03 ERA since 2019.

Alongside Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who signed with the Dodgers last week, Glasnow will headline the Dodgers’ rotation for years to come. His five-year extension will give Glasnow some time to get to know the team, and vice versa.

The hope is that this pairing can lead the Dodgers to multiple World Series titles during their time together.
