Dodgers Game Updates vs Giants: Bobby Miller’s First Start in the Rivalry

The depleted Dodgers look to pick themselves up off the mat in a big way with star rookie Bobby Miller (3-0, 0.78 ERA) on the mound. Miller will be introduced to an iconic rivalry, making the first start of his career against the San Francisco Giants. Gabe Kapler’s Giants welcome back old friend and 2020 world champion Alex Wood (1-1, 4.80 ERA) who will be making his first start since May 31st.

Yes, these Dodgers are hurting. Max Muncy (on the IL), Chris Taylor, and David Peralta are all sidelined. With that, Doc was forced to get a little creative and we see J.D. Martinez making his first start of the season on the field out in left. Rookie Jonny DeLuca starts in center and Mookie Betts is out in right field.

Michael Busch starts at third base with Taylor nursing a knee injury. Miller will throw to Austin Barnes for the first time in his career while Will Smith starts the game at DH.

Bobby Miller makes start number 5 in his thus far electric career. In 4 starts, he’s gone 3-0 with a 0.78 ERA, recording 23 strikeouts in 23 innings. Again, this is the first time he’ll be facing the Giants.

Alex Wood, however, is no stranger to the Dodgers. Aside from the 5 seasons he spent in Dodger blue, Woody has also faced his former team 12 times in his career, going 2-5 with a 3.77 ERA over 59.2 innings. He’s also pitched very well at Dodger Stadium in his lifetime, going 17-11 with a 3.12 ERA in 54 games.
