Dodgers Game Updates vs Rockies: Clayton Kershaw Faces Nemesis in Colorado, Muncy Returns

The Dodgers look to get back in the win column after losing a heartbreaker to the Houston Astros in extra innings on Sunday. As seems to be the case every five or six days recently, Clayton Kershaw (9-4, 2.72 ERA) will once again look to play the stopper for LA. He’ll try to do it in a place he usually struggles at, Coors Field in Colorado, which is the absolute worst place on earth for good pitchers. The Rockies counter with right-hander Connor Seabold (1-3, 5.88 ERA).

Thanks to the new scheduling in 2023, this is only the second time the Dodgers and Rockies have met up this season.

MLB Standings

Here’s a look at the lineup Dave Roberts is sending out against the right-hander.

As expected, the Dodgers get third baseman Max Muncy back in the lineup and batting 4th. Mookie Betts stays in the infield for another game as Miguel Vargas gets another mental day off, which Dave Roberts said could be the case a little more often moving forward. Will Smith catches Kershaw and we can use that as a reminder to vote Smitty to the All-Star Game next month.

Pitching Matchup

Clayton Kershaw is making his 16th start of the season and coming off a 7 inning, no runs gem against the Angels. As you’d expect, his numbers against the Rockies are somewhat mixed over his career. Kersh is 26-11 lifetime vs Colorado with a 3.40 ERA, his worst against any team he’s faced more than a handful of times. Most of that damage has come on the road at Coors Field where he has a 4.82 ERA over 26 starts and 155 innings.

We hate Coors Field.

So does Rockies starter Connor Seabold who has a 4.91 ERA in his home ballpark. The 27-year-old surrendered 4 runs in 3 innings in his lone appearance against the Dodgers.
