More Information Revealed on Dodgers’ Meeting With Shohei Ohtani

We now have more information on the Dodgers’ meeting with free agent two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani. It has been reported that the team met with Ohtani last Friday, December 1 at Dodger Stadium.

The team store and stadium tours were canceled so there would be no accidental sightings, keeping the privacy of the meeting in place. Insider Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register was the one to break the news.

This comes after the comments made by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts on Tuesday when he confirmed that the two sides have met. Roberts’ comments were met with a whirlwind of emotion from fans and media members alike, sparking much debate on the Dodgers’ fate with Ohtani.

Ohtani’s camp had previously said that any leaks about meetings would be held against the team in question, making it curious that Roberts let the information be known. He wouldn’t do anything to hurt the Dodgers’ chances with Ohtani, so there has to be some reason he admitted to the meeting.

Both president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman and general manager Brandon Gomes said that they were shocked by the comments from Roberts. Since Roberts’ comments, the fanbase has been in a frenzy online wondering where they stand in the pursuit of Ohtani.

It remains unknown at this time if the comments will have any effect on the free agency of Ohtani, but if he chooses to sign elsewhere, fans won’t let Roberts live this down. Hopefully, this was all just a minor misunderstanding and Ohtani still ends up in Dodger Blue this winter.

  1. Roberts admitted the Dodgers had a meeting with Ohtani…who didn’t already know that was going to happen? All Roberts said was that he feels he will pitch again one day and it was nice spending time with him…not exactly dropping any highly confidential inside nuggets….it will have no effect on this.

    1. I totally agree. The secrecy is getting old. This has been the worst kept secret ever. If Obtain holds it against the Dodgers, then it goes against all the hype we’ve heard about what a great team mate he is. The Dodgers have had very talented players on the team that had bad juju and bad results. What a letdown after the team had such great chemistry in 2023.

  2. My frustration is the Dodgers are in on everyone yet no moves, Look I understand the Ohtani signing has to happen but putting all the eggs in one basket is not good unless the for sure know that this is a possibility I would start making trades or signings now otherwise it will be again we tried just didn’t work out we got two reclamation projects and two guys that solidify our bench. I would trade for Burnes and Adames, if Lux has to be part of it so be it just don’t include both Vargas and Busch.

I would also try to get Glassnow but not include Arozarena but include Isaac Paredes the 3B, I would include Taylor, Muncy in this package along with young arms pay some of the salary for Taylor and Muncy if it helps Then I would sign Kiki and possibly Toascar Hernandez last but not least have to sign Yamamoto. If Ohatani signs great if not oh well this would be a good team. Last But not least I forgot Dylan Cease and try to somehow get Luis Roberts Jr if the Dodgers wanted him they have the package to get him

  3. Apparently (Bob Nightengale, USA Today MLB columnist) the Dodgers have asked joe Kelly if he would give up jersey #17, to which he said he absolutely would. If true, you don’t go there unless a deal is done…

  4. Personally I am really sick of all the Ohtani Hype and BS. I don’t see that he is in any way worth what he is expected to get. Right now he is a designated hitter only. Whether he will be a decent pitcher again remains to be seen. He is holding up the whole league making deals. Why? I think if the Dodgers sign him it will be a huge mistake.
So many good players could be had for Ohtanis asking price. What is the big deal about this two way player nonsense. Every position player is a two way player. The play defensively and they hit. Ohtani hits and maybe he will pitch again someday. I hope he goes somewhere else!
