Dodgers News: Dave Roberts Calls Mookie Betts ‘Best Player on the Planet’

Mookie Betts is playing nearly perfect baseball at the moment. The Dodgers star put together a 5 hit game and 7 hit day earlier this week and is 11-18 on this current road trip for LA.

Really, no one has been better in the month of August than Betts, who is now batting .309 with a 1.008 OPS and 34 home runs.

“He’s locked in. He’s in the zone,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said this week. “He’s playing great baseball. It doesn’t matter the score, every at-bat is just a fight and more times than not he’s coming out winning that battle. It’s fun to watch.”

Betts is rocketing himself to the top of the pack when it comes to the MVP race in the National League.

He’s stayed performing even as he made his long-awaited return to Boston to face his former Red Sox team. Battling the emotions of the moment, he has a couple of hits in the series and is displaying the defensive versatility he didn’t get a chance to show off while he patrolled the outfield at Fenway Park.

Offensively, he’s already just one home run away from surpassing his career-high of 35, set in the 2022 season, Betts could be having the best season of his career depending on how long he can keep this going.

“Right now, I think he is the best player on the planet,” Roberts said.
