Dodgers News: JD Martinez Helps Set New Franchise Record

Thursday night marked another milestone in a year unlike any other on multiple fronts for the 2023 Dodgers

After J.D. Martinez smacked a two-run homer in the first inning against the Rockies, the slugger joined three other teammates to achieve an offensive stat unlike any other in franchise history.

Freddie Freeman joined Mookie Betts and Max Muncy on Wednesday after he clubbed his own three run homer to reach 100 RBI on the year at Coors Field.

Thursday night signaled Martinez’s turn to make history alongside the All-Star cast of hitters the Dodgers continue to boast on a nightly basis.

Betts and Freeman rightly receive a majority of the media attention for their MVP caliber seasons, but omitting Muncy and Martinez from the discussion paints an incomplete picture.

Muncy’s rebounded from an awful 2022 season where his average couldn’t cross the Mendoza Line due to a lingering elbow injury from 2021.

Healthy enough in 2023 the third baseman’s production restored its former glory with a joint career high in home runs and a new career best 104 RBI.

Martinez’s contract remains the steal of the offseason after he was voted the starting National League DH for this year’s All-Star Game.

Signed to a one-year contract, Martinez reunited with both Betts and his former hitting coach Robert Van Scoyoc in LA to have a resurgent 2023 season.

The former Boston phenom missed bits of August and September due to a groin injury, but has looked like his prime form where he won the 2018 World Series alongside Betts upon his return.

Set for another postseason run in just a few days, LA’s offense doesn’t appear likely to slow down anytime soon.
