Dodgers News: Joey Gallo Secures Division Series Roster Spot

There was some uncertainty on who will be part of the outfield for the Dodgers in the postseason, but Dave Roberts made it clear that he wants to see Joey Gallo out there despite his recent struggles.

It remains to be seen how they will utilize Gallo, but obviously Roberts sees the value the 2-time All-Star brings to the clubhouse. Doc has had Joey’s back throughout his time with LA and spoke to the media about his decisions to keep Gallo in the rotation.

“Joey’s a threat. You know, every time he gets in there he can hit a homer. He prepares, he works hard, he cares, and I think for me it’s trying to find the right spots where it makes sense to get him in there. But, he’s going to be on our playoff roster. How we deploy him I just don’t know yet.”

It’s surprising considering Gallo has batted just a .161 this season and a .111 this month. The 2-time Gold Glove winner was also in the midst of a five game hitless streak before knocking down his first hit and home run Tuesday night in a 5-2 loss.

The talent is there, but it may be too late for Gallo to truly show what he’s capable of during the postseason. Luckily for him, he has extra time to prepare on his own and figure out his own issues before going out into the spotlight.

If Gallo can fire on all cylinders and the Dodgers get back to winning games, he can be a valuable asset for a deep roster.

  1. Power on occasion, good plays, nice guy but no better than on the Yankees…prove me wrong but a mistake in progress….who will he replace on the roster?

  2. Joey Gallo has a lifetime 199 batting average. I don’t think that’s going to change in a week. Trayce Thompson is a much better bet. I wish we still had Pederson. Especially with his extra postseason juice. With Taylor having an off year, and Bellinger having terrible years ever since he won the MVP in 2019, the entire outfield is an offensive liability, except for Betts, who also hasn’t been hitting well lately.

  3. Gallo has not earned a postseason roster spot. Trayce Thompson, James Outman are worthy choices.
