Dodgers News: Kyle Garlick Traded To Philadelphia for Minor League Pitcher

Today, the Dodgers announced that outfielder Kyle Garlick has been traded to the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Tyler Gilbert.

The Dodgers had officially designated Garlick for assignment just last week along with infielder Tyler White.

New Team Seasoning

The trade works out for the Dodgers and hopefully works out for the best for KG. The crowded LA outfield left little to no playing time for the 28-year-old. No doubt he sees more playing time in Philly in 2020.

Garlick is a California native, born in La Habra. The Dodgers drafted Garlick in the 28th round of the 2015 draft and he showed quite a bit of pop off his bat in the minors. In 2019 he went 12-48 with 3 home runs over 30 games after making his MLB debut.

With Mookie Betts, Cody Bellinger, Joc Pederson, A.J. Pollock, Kiké Hernandez, and Chris Taylor in the outfield, there was absolutely no chance Kyle Garlick was going to get additional seasoning on the Dodgers in 2020.

Personally, I will miss making the seasoning puns.

Tyler Gilbert, Southern California Kid

Fittingly enough, the minor leaguer that the Dodgers got in return for Kyle Garlick, is also a California native. While Tyler Gilbert was born in Santa Cruz (up in Giants country), he went to college at USC. He has a 3.36 ERA in the minors with a 1.17 WHIP. The Phillies drafted Gilbert in the 6th round of the 2015 draft. He spent the entire 2019 season at Triple-A, posting a 2.83 ERA in 47.2 innings pitched.

  1. Though I liked Garlick, it’s a great move when we have plenty of outfielders and can always use another successful pitcher to stash in AAA.
