Dodgers News: LA Insider Believes Julio Urias is All The Way Back

After a shaky start to the season and a hamstring strain that kept him out for over a month, Dodgers starting pitcher Julio Urias is back.

Even before his hamstring injury, Urias was off to a slow start given the standard he has set for himself in previous seasons. By May 18, when his injury kicked in, Urias held a 4.39 ERA, having given up 5 or more runs in 3 of his 10 starts.

Urias has proven that he can be one of the best starting pitchers in the game, as seen in his 2022 performance in which he started 32 games with a 20-3 record, throwing 1.02 WHIP and holding a 2.16 ERA. At his best, Urias is a Cy Young-worthy starter.

Since returning, there have been some spotty performances, as seen in his 8 ER performance against the Baltimore Orioles, but he seems to be finding his footing nicely.

In four games in August, Urias has a 1.44 ERA and 27 strikeouts in 25 innings. His last two starts have each lasted 7 innings.

“Julio’s got that look again of saying, ‘You know what. Enough is enough. I need to go out there and just be ‘Julio Urias,'” said Dodgers insider Jose Mota. “The guy that he knows and understands that there’s always more in the tank.”

Mota credited Urias’ ability to not push himself too hard, and throw what he knows, as a reason behind his recent success.

“Julio also knows that the basic thing he needs to do is not chase velocity. Not chase strikeouts. … With that, he concentrates on filling the zone and also sequencing better even off the zone.”

Urias starts tonight against the Boston Red Sox.
