Dodgers News: Yency Almonte Heads to Injured List, Gonzalez Returns
In an unsurprising move, reliever Yency Almonte is heading to the 15-day injured list with a right knee sprain suffered late on Friday night. With Almonte out, the Dodgers are bringing left-hander Victor Gonzalez back days after being optioned to Triple-A.
Almonte caught a spike on the mound last night and tweaked his knee just two strikes away from ending the game. After a brief visit from manager Dave Roberts and the training staff, he tried to gut it out but it was obvious he was favoring that back leg.
The right-hander underwent an MRI ahead of Saturday night’s game but the results of that scan have yet to be shared with the media.
Almonte owns a 5.06 ERA in 49 games this season.
Gonzalez returns after a short stint away from the club. He was optioned to AAA on Thursday when Clayton Kershaw came off the IL to start against the Rockies. Victor was with the club for only a few days and didn’t get into a game. He also didn’t have time to get into a game with the Oklahoma City team so he hasn’t pitched in nearly a week.
Over 25 games with the big league club, the veteran has a 5.32 ERA.
