Dodgers Notes: Latest Free Agency Rumors, Trade Deadline Wishes, Mookie Resurfaces

In the downtime before the World Series, things were loudest down in San Diego and up in San Francisco as the Padres admitted another defeat and sent manager Bob Melvin up north for no reason other than he and GM A.J. Preller couldn’t get along anymore. Preller has that problem with people…

For the Dodgers, it’s the calm before what should be a loud offseason of roster activity. The front office is expected to operate on all cylinders as they look to improve the team in a way that helps them get over the playoff hump.

Our Doug McKain has stayed active with his daily Dodgers talk show on our YouTube Channel, touching on all the latest rumors and adding some thoughts on the team can improve for 2024. He was joined by J.P. Hoornstra of the OC Register on Wednesday where they talked about big names like Dylan Cease, Yoshi Yamamoto, and Shohei Ohtani. My opinion: the top names to watch this offseason are Yamamoto and Corbin Burnes.

In other Dodgers news, Mookie Betts finally re-emerged online, posting on his Instagram page for the first time since LA’s NLDS loss to the Diamondbacks. The fact that he posted himself at a bowling alley certainly ruffled some feathers, but it’s his offseason and he honestly deserves to get the hell away from baseball for a little while.

Surely an unpopular opinion.

Finally, one more takeaway from Andrew Friedman and Brandon Gomes’ end of season press conference from last week. One thing that was said that’s kind of resonated lately was Friedman mentioned that he wishes the club was a little more bold at the trade deadline. Of course, the Dodgers didn’t want to do enough to acquire guys like Max Scherzer or Justin Verlander from the Mets and weren’t willing to pay up to get Dylan Cease from the White Sox so they settled on Lance Lynn.

Of course, at that time the club though that Julio Urias would be available to them in October and that Clayton Kershaw’s injury wasn’t as serious as it turned out to be…

A little more than four months until pitchers and catchers report.
