Dodgers Reportedly Emerging as the Frontrunner to Sign Teoscar Hernandez

The Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly emerged as the frontrunner to sign All-Star outfielder Teoscar Hernandez. Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital reported the news.

On Friday, it was reported that the Dodgers were among the three frontrunners for Hernandez, alongside the Los Angeles Angels and Boston Red Sox.

However, on Saturday, Gomez reported that the Dodgers have broken away from the pack, due to their willingness to offer a deal larger than three years.

Hernandez would be a perfect fit on the Dodgers, as they’re missing a solid, everyday right-handed outfielder.

Hernandez has hit at least 20 home runs in every full season since 2018, including a career-high 32 home runs and 116 RBIs in 2021.

Last year in Seattle, Hernandez hit 26 home runs while driving in 93 RBIs. On the defensive side of things, he’s gradually improved his defense as his career has gone on.

Hernandez would be a perfect No. 6 hitter in the Dodgers’ lineup behind Max Muncy, and could even bat cleanup on days Will Smith is resting. He could also take over as the Dodgers’ cleanup hitter, moving Smith to the six-hole.

While no deal is imminent as of now, the Dodgers are clearly going after Hernandez.

The Athletic projected a three-year, $50 million deal for Hernandez. It sounds like a potential offer from the Dodgers could be at least four years. Hernandez is 31 years old.
