Dodgers Rumors: Insider Proposes Trade to Get Tyler Glasnow in LA

An MLB pundit had an idea for the Los Angeles Dodgers to trade both Emmet Sheehan and Gavin Stone to the Tampa Bay Rays for Tyler Glasnow. Zachary D. Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed the idea among a bunch of other potential trades this offseason. For LA, though, this trade seems like a bit of an overpay.

This upcoming offseason will be interesting to watch what Dodger president Andrew Friedman does. It may hinge on what the Dodgers do in the postseason, particularly how the exciting rookie pitchers perform. However, he won’t trade two young promising pitching stars for an aging veteran.

Glasnow, 30, had 10 wins and 7 losses with a 3.53 ERA and 162 strikeouts in 120 innings this year.

Bobby Miller, 24, has similar statistics as Glasnow, and he has a greater upside as a frontline starter.

Undoubtedly, Andrew Friedman wants to add experience to the Dodger starting rotation this season. He doesn’t know whether Clayton Kershaw will return or retire. He has a reasonably priced one-year option on Lance Lynn.

Additionally, Walker Buehler will return to the Dodger starting rotation in 2024.

This summer many pundits expressed their opinion that the Dodgers would go after the probable 2023 National League Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell, a free agent.

Friedman is proud of his young starters, though. According to Dave Roberts, Sheehan has the most explosive fastball on the team. Stone has a great changeup and is still trying to develop into a marvelous major league pitcher.

The Dodgers can afford to sign top free agent starters and keep their future starting stars. The 2023 season taught the Dodgers that they can’t have too much pitching — but they don’t need to take a chance on Glasnow while giving up two of their best young arms.

  1. Who was the pundit? I have to question if this story is real. Right now, at age 30, Glasnow has slightly more value than Sheehan, with half a season under him, but what about a year from now? And they’re supposed to just throw in Stone. Everyone outside the Dodger organization wants to give away these valuable young players. What the team is really going to need soon (after Kershaw retires) is a left handed pitcher.

    1. EXACTLY! I was trying to find the name of this so-called idiot pundit as well. Obviously, he hasn’t seen Sheehan pitch lately. He’s a 2024 starter, no doubt. If Kershaw retires, which I hope he does not as I really want him to break the 3,000 Ks mark and believe he deserves a “Farewell Tour” in 2024, then sign Blake Snell. He already has a strong relationship with Friedman. But, Sheehan, along with Miller and Pepiot, will make up a big part of the rotation next year. Stone is about mid-2024…..

  2. if this dude was 38 and injured…Friedman would already be on the phone making this trade happen….this kid is young, healthy and really good…not anything Friedman would be interested in. NOT HAPPENING.

    1. yep, that Friedman obviously doesn’t know what he is doing, I hear the Mets guy is available

  3. Excuse me, but isn’t this season still going? There will be plenty of time to talk about how the Dodgers will sign and trade for every player available after this season. Why don’t we just wait a few more weeks?
