Report: Dodgers to Hire Matt Kemp to ‘Advisory’ Role

Matt Kemp is reportedly returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers this spring.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, the Dodgers are expected to hire former All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp in an advisory role in their organization.

Kemp’s exact role is unclear, but he isn’t the only former player to join the Dodgers at camp this year. Andre Ethier has been serving as a mentor in Glendale this spring.

The three-time All-Star, two-time Gold Glover and two-time Silver Slugger played for the Dodgers from 2006-14 and then again in 2018.

His career finished after the 2020 season with the Colorado Rockies. Although he never formally announced his retirement, he finished his MLB career with 1,808 hits, 287 home runs, 1,031 RBI, 184 stolen bases, a .284 batting average, a .821 OPS and a 21.4 WAR.

Perhaps the 39-year-old signs a one-day contract and officially calls it a career before taking on his new role.
