Sights and Sounds of Spring Training: February 18-20

Welcome back to the Sights and Sounds of Spring Training series!

Over the last few days, a lot has happened around camp. Position players have finally reported!

Don Newcombe

First of all, some of the biggest news surrounding the Dodgers organization was the passing of the legendary Don Newcombe. So many of the current and former Dodgers players were inspired by the love of the franchise and the game of baseball that he held forever.

Rest in peace, Newk.

Around the Horn

Some news regarding Andrew Toles’ future surfaced, stating that he will not be joining the team in Spring Training in the foreseeable future due to personal reasons.

In this video, Dave Roberts outlines that as well as a variety of other instances in camp about Alex Verdugo, Hyun-Jin Ryu, Corey Seager. and more.

Corey Seager

As Dave Roberts noted, Corey Seager has been progressing in his recovery which is awesome news.

Here is Corey discussing it for himself:

And here is some video of Seager taking live BP:

Clayton Kershaw

To nobody’s surprise, Clayton Kershaw will take the hill for his ninth-straight Opening Day start.

Here is Kersh discussing the honor:

And a live bullpen session for the ace:

Walker Buehler/Julio Urias/Rich Hill/Hyun-Jin Ryu

Ferris threw his first pen of Spring Training and is behind schedule in comparison to the other starters as the club tries to manage his load.

Julio threw a live session.

Ryu is reportedly toying with a slider.

D. Mountain was doing D. Mountain things.

Max Muncy/Russell Martin

We know the Dodgers love their versatility. Muncy was seen taking grounders at second (normal) and Martin was seen taking grounders at third (!!!).

Kenley Jansen

This week, Jansen lost his good friend and mentor and took to Twitter to show his gratitude to the late Don Newcombe. He even changed his profile picture to Newk.

Photo Day

Now to lighten the mood a bit, here are some funny videos and photos from around the clubhouse.

Stay tuned for more from around the clubhouse!

Daniel Preciado

My name is Daniel Preciado and I am 19 years old. I am a sophomore Sport Analytics major and Cognitive Science and Economics dual minor at Syracuse University. When I am not in New York, I live in Whittier, California --- not too far from Chavez Ravine. I am pretty old-school for being an analytics guy and I will always embrace debate. Also, Chase Utley did absolutely nothing wrong.
