Dodgers News: Chris Taylor Returns, Shelby Miller Placed on 60-Day IL Amid Series of Roster Moves

The Los Angels Dodgers announced a series of roster moves on Friday ahead of their first series out of the All-Star Break against the New York Mets.

First, Chris Taylor was activated off the injured list — they had an open roster spot from the Miguel Vargas option.

Then, the team had to formally activate new outfielder Jake Marisnick, and had to clear both a roster spot and a 40-man spot. Jonny DeLuca was optioned to make room on the active roster, while RHP Shelby Miller was moved to the 60-day injured list to make room on the 40-man.

There’s a lot to unpack here, but let’s start with Taylor. He’s been out since the middle of June with knee soreness, but was expected to return right after the All-Star break, and is.

He’ll provide additional depth at shortstop and maybe even second base with Vargas back in the minors, and will be a strong righty bat against left-handed pitching.

As for Marisnick, he’s officially been activated, and will likely see time against left-handed pitching, too. You can read all about him here.

Then there’s DeLuca, who we suspected would be sent down for Taylor. He played fairly well in his first stint as a Major Leaguer — especially as a pinch-hitter — but he’ll now go back down to Triple-A to continue to progress.

And finally, the Dodgers moved Miller to the 60-day injured list, meaning he won’t return to the bullpen for a while. He was one of the Dodgers better relievers this year — sporting a 2.40 ERA in 30 innings — so hopefully he can make an impact down the stretch.
