Dave Roberts Says Dodgers Are ‘Obsessed’ With Winning the 2024 World Series

If it’s not clear already, the Los Angeles Dodgers are trying to win the World Series. While every team is trying to win, the Dodgers have truly embraced a “World Series or bust” mentality.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts describes his team as “obsessed” in its pursuit of bringing another World Series trophy home to Los Angeles.

“Guys are obsessed with winning a championship this year. If we don’t win the World Series, I think we’ll all feel that we’ve failed.”

With the team the Dodgers have built — including superstar additions like Shohei Ohtani and Tyler Glasnow — the expectations aren’t just sky-high in the building, but across MLB. Since their huge offseason, the Dodgers have become favored by many to win the World Series.

If they are unable to win despite adding Ohtani, Glasnow, Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Teoscar Hernández to a team already stacked with stars like Mookie Betts, Will Smith and Freddie Freeman, many will consider their efforts a failure.

The Dodgers have become a playoff staple over the last decade, but have just one World Series, in the COVID-19 shortened 2020 season, to show for it. After an early playoff exit in 2023 at the hands of the Arizona Diamondbacks, both the organization and players have become extra motivated.

The team is off to a good start, with a 2-1 record to begin the year. In their first game of the season at Dodger Stadium, the Dodgers secured a resounding 7-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals. Their batting lineup showed out, with Betts and Freeman each hitting a home run. Betts led the team with three runs while Freeman led with three RBIs.

Glasnow was great in his home debut, allowing just two hits and one run through six innings. If is the level of play the Dodgers display all season, they’ll have a great shot at reaching their goal.
