Dodgers vs Giants: Latest Betting Odds, Predictions and Picks for September 5

The Dodgers bounced back from their first series loss in over a month, taking two of three from the Padres over the weekend at Dodger Stadium. After a disappointing loss on Friday, the Dodgers came out with guns blazing on Saturday and Sunday, outscoring the Padres 21-5 over the last two games of the series.

Now the Giants come to town barely clinging to hope in the NL Wild Card race, sitting eight games out of the third and final WC spot. If the Dodgers can win one of the three games, the Giants will officially be eliminated from NL West contention.

Game one of the series will have Andrew Heaney taking the mound for the Dodgers after getting an extra day off over the weekend. Heaney is 2-1 with a 2.12 ERA, and the big question will be whether he can get the longball under control, as he’s allowed six homers in his last three starts after allowing just one over his first seven starts.

Heaney faced the Giants in his second start back from his latest IL stint, allowing one run in four innings in an 8-2 Dodgers win on August 1.

Taking the mound for the Giants will be Logan Webb, having another outstanding season after a breakout year last year. Webb’s strikeout rate is way down this year, though, and his walk rate is up a bit. While his ERA is better this year than last, the underlying numbers suggest he hasn’t been quite a good in 2022 as he was in 2021.

Webb is 0-1 in two starts against the Dodgers this year, allowing seven earned runs in 11 innings. He took the loss in the August 1 game started by Heaney.
