Max Muncy Reacts to Clayton Kershaw News, Admits There Was ‘A Little Worry’ He’d Leave Dodgers

On Tuesday, it was reported that Clayton Kershaw was re-signing with the Dodgers for his 17th season. After a long offseason of waiting, the Dodgers’ front office, players and fans finally got the news they had waited for just in time for spring training.

Kershaw chose the Dodgers over going to Texas to play for his hometown Rangers squad. He also has a player option in his contract to potentially return to Los Angeles for the 2025 season, too.

Shortly after the news broke, Kershaw’s longtime teammate, Walker Buehler, took to X to react to the news.

And on Wednesday, on the Foul Territory show, another longtime teammate of Kershaw, Max Muncy, expressed his excitement regarding Kershaw’ return.

“I was pumped when I found out he was coming back,” Muncy said. “He’s obviously one of the best left-handed pitchers of all time. He’s an unbelievable teammate, unbelievable competitor. It honestly wouldn’t feel right not having him here.”

Muncy wasn’t 100 percent confident Kershaw would make this decision to return, though.

“For me, there was a little worry he might decide to choose Texas,” Muncy said. “He’s such a family guy and the situation that would be there for him in Texas would be almost too perfect.”

In the end, Kershaw elected to remain with the Dodgers, the only team he’s ever known. And Muncy believes that was the right decision.

“There’s certain guys out there that only need to be wearing one uniform, and he’s definitely one of those. He doesn’t need to have another uniform ever on.”

If Kershaw picks up his player option in 2025, he’ll likely finish his career only wearing one uniform — just the way it should be for the future first-ballot Hall of Famer.
